HAPPY HOMECOMING!  Bright lights, purple nights, Santana’s Homecoming is in Vegas tonight!  We have a full day of Homecoming events.  We start with the Homecoming assembly after 4th period, followed by voting for Homecoming King and Queen.  All seniors will vote in their 5th period classes.  We need to make it rain tonight, so wear your purple rain shirts to the game and support our team.  Purple Rain shirts are still on sale in the student store.  Buy yours today for $5 with an ASB card and $8 without.  JV plays at 4:00 and Varsity plays at 7:00.  Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at half time along with the winner of the class floats.  The Homecoming dance starts at 9:00 pm and ends at 11:00 pm.  Tickets are still on sale in the student store for $10 w/ an ASB card, $12 w/out and $15 at the door.

PSAT: Today is the last day to sign up for the PSAT.  Sign up at lunch or after school in the finance office or online at the student store.  The cost is $15.  All 10th and 11th graders are encouraged to take the PSAT.

GOT PLANS?: Tomorrow you have plans.  You are going to attend the district career/college fair at Cuyamaca College from 1-4:00 pm.  This is the big one and it’s for all students.  More information, including the program, is available on the Santana High School website.  Learn how to write a great college admission essay in one of 15 workshops, or find out what career opportunities are available to you.  Students from the whole district will be there…will YOU be there?

LUNCH APPLICATIONS: Lunch applications from the 2013-14 school year expire on October 13.  If you have not turned in a new lunch application for the 2014-15 school year, you will not be able to get a lunch after that date.  Applications are available on line, in the front office, and at the cafeteria.

PEER MEDIATION: Attention students – Peer mediators are here and available for you.  This year’s mediators are Brielle Wilkerson, Tara Kyne and Deanna Aguiar.  They can help you resolve conflicts between you and someone that you are having a disagreement with.  They are also available if you just need another student to talk to.  So, if you need help resolving issues between friends, you can grab a request slip in any classroom or in the guidance office.

SWIMMERS AND DIVERS: Please meet coach Jeni on the pool deck on Thursday at noon to help get ready for Club Rush.

NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?  Join Key Club!  We have meetings Thursdays at lunch in room S2.  Hope to see you there.

DANCE DANCE DANCE: The Dance Team is looking for new members.  No experience is necessary and it’s free.  We will teach you how to dance.  See Mrs. Wilkerson-Spenny in the guidance office for an application.

ALL STUDENTS, grades 9 through 12 – We would love to get your input.  This year we are going through a school review to maintain our WASC accreditation.  Here’s an opportunity for you to speak out, get involved, and be a part of making Santana an even better place.  We are looking for students and parents to join our focus groups to help point out where we are succeeding and where we still need to improve.  See Mrs. Ruff in the guidance office to get more information or to sign up.  Santana needs your input.

STAND UP: Are you tired of being bullied or teased and don’t know what to do?  A new group called Stand Up is being organized to address this issue.  This group will introduce strategies to stand up to bullying and different ways to make the situation better, including empowering students to feel more confident in speaking up for yourself and others you may see being targeted.  For more information, please see Mr. Anderson in the counseling office.

PARKING PERMIT: Just a reminder - If you are driving to school, you must obtain a parking permit from Mrs. King in the Vice Principal’s Office.  If you received one last year and still have the sticker on your car, you must pick up a form and renew your permit.

WORK PERMITS: All Work Permits from last school year and over the summer expired on Monday, September 8.  If you are still employed and you haven’t already completed a new work permit application, you must do so.  Your work permit is no longer valid.  Please come by and see Mrs. Bingham for a new application and to ask questions.

DRAMA CLUB: Next Monday’s meeting is very important.  Please remember to bring your Old Globe permission slips back and topics to discuss include Club Rush and the winter production.  New members are always welcome.  Bring your lunch I will see you in room 104 next Monday.  Ask Mrs. Garrison for more details.

PEACE COUNCIL: Join Peace Council and make a difference.  Meetings are Wednesdays at lunch in room 105.

BOOK CLUB: Hello Sultan Readers!  If you enjoy reading and would like to share your love of books with other Sultans, join Santana’s Book Club every Friday at lunch in the library.  Bring your lunch and the love of literature.

ZOMBIE CLUB: If you want to survive the zombie apocalypse, come to room S-7 every Wednesday at lunch in Ms. Chandler’s room.  Don’t be left for dead.  We are all infected!

KEY CLUB: If you enjoy volunteering and like having fun, join Key Club.  We meet every Thursday in S2.  If you are interested, please come next week so we can include you in our Six Flags plans.

CLEAN WATER CLUB: This is a reminder to the Clean Water Club and anyone else who would like to check it out that we meet today and every Friday at lunch in room S8

DISNEY CLUB: Second star to the right and straight on to Disney Club.  That’s right, Santana has its very own Disney Club, and the Disney Club does go to Disneyland, so come fund raise for the 2015 Disneyland trip.  They meet in Mr. Reilly’s room Tuesdays at lunch.
